Ndu Mayor reconnect the with Ancestors

In a bold fusion of tradition and modernity, the Mayor of Ndu Council, Abdou Kanfon Borno has taken steps to strengthen ties between the municipality and its ancestral heritage.
His recent decision to light up seven of the fifteen palaces of the municipality is a symbolic “thank you” and more as a reconnection with the ancestors of the land.

As per Wimbum people, traditional authorities serve as liaisons between the living and the deads. By illuminating these palaces, the Mayor signals respect for that role and seeks to elevate the social standing of traditional institutions within Ndu municipality. The initiative is considered as a way to bridge the mayor’s administration with ancestral authority, with the expectation that such alignment will invite blessings for good governance and reinforce communal unity.

This move positions Mayor Borno as the first Wimbum municipal administrator to make a tangible shift in how tradition and modernity intersect at the local level.
The phrase “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world” captures the underlying intent of  nurturing culture  to shape civic life.

“By preserving cultural heritage  while initiating more development projects,  Ndu Council sets a benchmark for grassroots development in  Donga Mantung Division.
Seven from the fifteen palaces of  the Subdivision  notably ,Ndu Fon’s Palace  ,Ntumbaw, Talla ,Ntundip, Ngarum,Mbipgo and Sinna palaces have been electrified with solar energy. The process is still ongoing.  He said.

He stated that traditional authorities act as auxiliaries of the administration and must maintain 24/7 contact with municipal and administrative officials.

With the rise of solar energy, traditional authorities now need these devices to charge phones and power other electrical appliances like televisions.

He argued that the palace is a mirror of the village, reflecting the caliber and attitude of the elite toward development. To encourage traditional rulers to remain in their palaces as custodians of the land, they should be provided with modern social amenities. He said.

He envisage to restoring Ndu Town’s long-lost fame as the economic hub of Donga Mantung Division. He also recalled the many projects accomplished during his mandate and shared his outlook for the future of Ndu Subdivision.
