Mayor in Kondengui for CFA 190 M scam

Cameroon City Mayors and other municipal authorities who have transformed the councils to their private enterprises from where they enrich themselves should note that the Kondengui central prison awaits them. It has just started with the shaking news of embezzlement of public funds involving a prominent administrative authority,
mayor Bikoula Bekono of Mefou-et Afamba of Centre region, and many of them will follow soon. A highly placed security source hinted the Vanguard recently."No matter who you are or family background. Once you are identified as an embezzler, your bus stop will be Kondengui". He said. mayor Bikoula Bekono of Mefou-et-Afamba , has been placed under a committal warrant at the Kondengui central prison. Bikoula Bekono,is said to have been mayor of the said council for a long time. He virtually transformed it to his personal enterprises as is the case with others awaiting Kondengui. The Vanguard gathered that he is prosecuted for alleged embezzlement of a colossal sum estimated at 190 million CFA francs .

According to concurring judicial sources, this imprisonment follows an in-depth investigation carried out by the competent authorities, aimed at combating the mismanagement of public resources. This case is part of a national context marked by an increasingly strong desire on the part of the public authorities to strengthen local governance and restore confidence between citizens and institutions.

The name of Bikoula Bekono, until now was little known to the public.
His scandal raises many questions about transparency in the management of funds allocated to municipal authorities, as well as the effectiveness of budgetary control mechanisms at the local level.

Public opinion, already sensitive to issues of governance and integrity in the management of public funds are closely following the case, which could pave the way for other investigations in the same area and at the national level. The arrest reaffirms the importance of the fight against impunity and recalls that all public institutions managers are obligation to be accountable.

In a Cameroon where citizens' expectations of social justice are growing, this case symbolise a breakoff with past practices. The arrest of Bikoula Bekono marks a turning point in the management of r municipal councils long perceived as being sheltered from major state controls.
