ILO traines CRS, SMES,CIVIL society, and Trade Union leaders on the importance of HIMO*






Within the  ambit of Youths Employability, a component of the Ring  Road  project aimed at empowering over 2500frs with international labour norms amongst other issues related job creation and  participation in the ongoing National Road No 11 ( Ring Road), International labour organisation organisation ( ILO) organised a two days workshop and  the Regional Delegation of Scientific Research  Bamenda Northwest Region on Thursday  18 to Friday 19 July 2025  to abreast  CRCs,SMES,BETS, and workers union  on the importance of approach.

Participants were edified  on policy framework and institutional setup of HIMO substantiated with ILO decades of experience.
 Besides HIMO and it applicability on the RING ROAD project in particular,participants were drilled on  EIIP approach  Decent work ,technical aspects of EIIP implementation, project planning, execution, and challenges therein  and solutions in EIIP implementation.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop,  the out gone Regional Delegate of Public Works for Northwest Region Ngwaimbi Paul  stressed the importance of HIMO as it aims at promoting social cohesion, create employment to commit the beneficial population a senses of belong in a bit to ensure sustainability of the project aimed at transformation to Region to a business hub.

The ring road is the future of the Northwest Region, he said, while announcing the creation of the Public Works Trade Centre in Nkambe.   The school he explained would train engineers that would be used in the  construction of Ring Road.  This would create employment for the youths of the region to deter them from social crime orchestrated by idleness.

The National Coordinator of International labour organisation, Tah Tayong Etienne gave details of their activities, notably the the Public Works Trade center, soon to go operational in Nkambe  amongst other projects well in advanced.
The main objective of the workshop he says is to fast tract youth employability via Labour  Intensive based approach  ( HIMO) to create jobs for young people within the framework of the  support  programme  fir the transport sector for communities along the Ring Road.
He explained that at 2500 youths in the intervention are trained in labour based techniques in schools building sites,with atleast  twenty managers of small a medium size enterprises (SMEs trained in labour based techniques .
He added that two hundred members of the communal road committees (CRC)  have been trained in labour based approaches for road maintenance,with four hundred direct jobs created and seven hundred and fifty indirect and induced created jobs.
The life transforming projects established at over one billion would change the narrative of the region. It is on this premise that he exhorted the population to collaborate with the stakeholders of the Ring Road, ILO etc to ease the realisation of the project.
