Anglophone crisis Neglected by international communities

The Norwegian Refugee Council has observed that Anglophones crisis is one the most neglected crisis in the world by International Communities. The NGO bases her observation  on three criteria, notably  the lack of humanitarian funding, media coverage, and political will from the international community. This is the third time that the Anglophone crisis has been ranked as one of the most neglected crises in the world. The 2024 report  of  the Norwegian Refugee Council unequivocal  claim that  the  Anglophone Crisis is  most neglected crises in the world, and in Africa in particular.  Cameroon tops this ranking, ahead of Burkina Faso. According to this Norwegian non-governmental organization, “Three distinct and prolonged crises have been affecting Cameroon for over a decade: the long-standing conflict with armed groups in the Lake Chad Basin, the violence in the Northwest and Southwest regions, and the persistent instability spilling over from the Central African Republic.“In 2024,” the NGO recalls, “approximately 3.4 million people were in urgent need of assistance and protection.

More than 1.1 million were internally displaced, while nearly half a million refugees and asylum seekers seeking safety in Cameroon remained stranded in a precarious situation.”However, despite this precarious situation caused by these multiple crises, particularly the ongoing one in the Anglophone region of the country, which has led to numerous displacements both internally and externally, the NGO deplores that the world remains with its eyes closed .In its annual report on the ten most neglected humanitarian crises on the planet . The released of June 3 2025  in  Senegal -Dakar, Senegal states that tha  Norwegian Refugee Council relies on three elements to rate the degree of the neglect of Humanitarian crisis.  Accordingly, scarce media coverage, an ineffective international response, and a lack of funding for humanitarian needs, with only 45% of the total financial support requested is being met. The NGO concludes that this is a glaring example of international neglected. The Norwegian Refugee Council report on  most neglected crises in the world holds that eight  African countries notably,  Cameroon  Ethiopia, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Mali, Uganda, Iran, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Honduras, and Somalia are the most neglected.   2025 Election Presidential election With the coming of the presidential in October 2025, many innocent civilians will lost their lives or unjustifiable  jailed for crime they have not committed, given that the crisis has become a stock in trade for the state Judiciary, the military and the Separatists fighters.  Many innocent youths have been victimized and exploited by both the Separatist fighters and the Military.   A highly placed security source, conscious of the effect of the draconian measures taken by the state to annihilate the separatists’  fighting for the Restoration of southern Cameroons, lamented that many   civilians will be arbitrarily jailed.  Citing the case of many Anglophones who have suffered arbitrary arrest and payment of ransom to regain their liberty, he cited the case  of one Fuanyi Anu Lionel  who was arrested on the 18 of May 2024 while running away from attacks by the separatists.      Since the military  under the pretext  of always claiming  ‘that ‘Amba  or Separatists”  is not written on people faces, allegedly  arrested the said   Fuanyi   Anu Lionel  who only regain his liberty after paying the sum of FCFA 600.000 with aide of a defense council. He hinted the Vanguard on condition of anonymity that  Fuanyyi Anu Lionel and his mother Fuanyi Jennet Njiwung has become a target again following a list recently established by the new security boss of the Division  who wants to exhume old cases for  obvious reasons.  The Anglophone security officer who is conscious and worried by the exploitation of innocent    civilians by the state security lamented  that the many innocent Anglophones will go prison or pay ransom to the military who are known to be victimizing innocent civilians to make their money with the coming of the Presidential  and reinforcement of security in the restive Anglophone regions.        He said the new security boss has extracted names of people whose  security issues  were long trashed  and closes  to  again summon them for questioning.    “ I clashed with him over this issue as I saw it  is gross abuse of Human Right , victimization and exploitation of innocent  civilians” .   It is apparently due this clash that the security offer decided to spill the beans.  The muteness of the international community’s about the Anglophones crisis has become topical given the coming of the Presidential election in which many thought was going to enshrine a new political era for Cameroon.  There is a fear of an outbreak of a more severe political upheaval id care is not taken.
