Bamenda City Council Poised to win 2025 National Hygiene and Sanitation contest




Bamenda city council is determined to emerge first in the 2025 National Hygiene and sanitation contest, an annual National Programme of the Ministry of Urban Development.     To ensure success, the City Mayor Achobong Paul Tambeng embarked on the provision of hygiene and sanitation materials to the population of Bamenda town to ease collection and disposal of waste. 

  The exercise started late years 2024 in   Bamenda 1 council with the distribution of Wheelbarrows, spades, rakes, hoes, and trash cans etc  to ease collection  and disposal of household wastes.A similar exercise organized today Wednesday February 8th at Bamenda council Library under the administration and the Fon of Mankon. The City   Mayor upon distribution of another consignment of similar hygiene and sanitation tools, warned that stringent measures have been taken to not only ensure success of the exercise, but to sanction defaulters  . Mayor Achobong Paul insisted that Bamenda City must emerge first in the 2025  National Hygiene and Sanitation   contest.   



While assuring the extension of the exercise to Bamenda III council on the months ahead, he exhorted the population to collaborate and corroborate the city council in her strive to take first position in the National Clean City contest.   General hygiene and sanitation is a collective responsibility of every civilized community. 

 It is on this premised that the City Mayor  exhorted the entire population of  Bamenda  city to be part of the exercise.  Paul Achobong warned that anybody caught littering the streets or quarters of Bamenda city shall pay a fine of FCFA 15000 or face the wrath of the law.  To ensure a vigorous application of the municipal decision, hygiene and sanitation committees has been created in all quarters of the city to ensure a rigorous implementation of the municipal order.         He said about FCFA 50 million has been allocated for the general hygiene and sanitation exercise of Bamenda town.  The package he says encompasses payment of the company charged with the general collection of garbage in the town for a period of one Year.    He expressed optimism that the exercise is going to be a milestone in his drive towards a modern and clean city if all goes as planned.
