The entire Northwest region is going to be a business hop after the tarring of the Ring Road, more especially the extension of the road from Misaje to Bisola in Nigeria. The Misaje – Nigeria corridor - component of the ring road is going to open another passage for the Northwest region to do business with Nigeria after Ekock- Mamfe road which is today plagued by the Anglophone political brouhaha. The second face of the project stretching from Kumbo squares to Misaje which ongoing is said have brought smiles on the faces of those who have been trading with Nigeria via Nkambe Aku , Abounshi etc. With the tarring of the road, economic operator can trade in Nigeria and come back to Bamenda, Kumbo or Nkambe on same day. Says one Ngwayeh Alphonse a trader. Considering the huge advantages that would come with the Ring Road, the Honourable Member of Parliament for Jakiri , Verla Fostine has challenged Bui youths to urgently invest in agriculture in preparation for the biggest west African market ( Nigeria) in Africa. The proximity to Nigeria she says is an advantage which should be fully exploited by the population for economic growth, rather indulging in unethical political activities. The Member of Parliament was speaking during a council session held on Saturday May 11 2024 to evaluate the Administrative, management and stores accounts session of Jakiri council. She exhorted the youths of her constituency to open more potatoes farms in preparation for the ready market. She was optimistic that the youths of Bui will witness an explosion in their economic activities in the years ahead with the tarring of the National Road Number 11 (the Ring Road)., linking it to Nigeria. She warned against continuous involvement in unproductive political activities and other illegal ventures that would only bring misery to them and the entire population in the long. On this premise, she exhorted parents to encourage their children invest in Agriculture as the soil does not deceive anyone. The session as pave the way for her to encourage women to exploit their political potentials to the fullest, given their numerical strength. She advised councilors to encourage voters’ registration at all level as the fate of the nation can only be determined by the ballot box. Hon. Fostine warned councilors against a repeat of the political follies of 2013 which lead to the demise of CPDM in Jakiri, paving the way for Hon. Wirba Joseph to go to Parliament. The result of which is the destabilization of the nation. Owing that the current political stalemate in the restive Anglophones regions was triggered in Jakiri due to internal political divide, Hon Fostine warned councilors against political indifference and all forms of disarray that could affect the political stability of Jakiri again. The session ended on a very positive note as all the councilors affirmed the financial records as presented and promise to collaborate with the mayor and other staff to enable them succeed in their development challenges. It was an opportune moment for the mayor, Hon. Wirngo Buba Kibo to caution against laxity while remembering the councilors that their days in the council are numbered as 2025 is just at the Conner.
