A MESSAGE OF PEACE AND UNITY TO THE POPOLATION OF ABAKWA BY THE CITY MAYOR, ACHOBONG TAMBENG PAUL ON THE OCCASION OF THE 52nd ANNIVERSARY OF NATIONAL DAY 2OTH MAY, 2024.
We shall Monday May 20 come together bound by our faith in God with genuine respect and love for our country, inheriting the legacy left by our founding fathers testaments of President AHMADU AHIDJO, JOHN NGU FONCHA and SOLOMON TANDENG MUNA –whereas it establishes that a testament goes enforce only at the death of the testator. In 1972, our forefathers with all living force testified by the ballot box of a unitary state of Cameroon. My esteemed brothers population of Bamenda, all state functionaries of the Northwest Region, this is the day our forefathers saw the need to reunite after being fragmented by the colonialists. If they made errors in the conception of our nation, we should forgive them as no one is perfect; it was a duty call to a perfect mission of working in the interest of our nation. In every circumstance, give thanks to God, for only he knows why. Celebrating this very special day in the life of our nation amidst security challenges calls for a reflection as to why we are indifferent to peace despite calls by international communities for us to respect the fundamental rights of the people and children, especially those of school going age. The holdup for 8yrs running is the worst crime against humanity and no international community can support this barbarism. The vacuum created by the school holdup and other activities has brought social miseries to our people and the generations to come. For how long will Bamenda and Northwest as a whole continue to live in this mess, senseless war that has caused Bamenda to fall from the state sublime to ridiculous? Bamenda use to be a center of academic excellence, this was one of the economic locomotives of the town. Our educational system and the splendor of our lifestyle was a big source of attraction to those of other regions. But today, we are on the wrong side of history because of our indifference to peace and respect of state institutions. No Society is perfect, no Nation is perfect, and nobody is perfect. We North West people should not think that we are a very special people, or very perfect people, to continually think that things must be done our own way. we should learn to be tolerant and admit that our problems are not more than those of others. We will continue to live in social miseries, if we continue to hold the gun and destabilize states institutions in quest for an imaginary country. This, I can assure you, is a white elephant project. Cameroon should remain a one and indivisible Nation. We can only ameliorate on the state of things for a better tomorrow. What God has put together, no one puts asunder. My fellow Abakwa boys, time is neutral and does not change things, that is why no generation can choose the age or circumstance in which it is born, no one chooses the Nation in which he is born, no one chooses the family to which he is born. Only God almighty determines our destiny. Time has come for us to meet hate with love, meet physical force with soul force. I can hear a voice crying out through the vista of time saying, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, pray for them that despise you. Unless you observe these virtues, you cannot matriculate in the University of Eternal Life. The Bible says. I can hear the same voice crying out in cosmic proportions; he who lives by the sword, will perish by the sword. We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive one another because, he who is devoid of the power to forgive, is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in even the worst of us and some evil even in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate those who err against us or our enemies, no matter the circumstances. Think about the story of a man who sent away his driver for always saying “ we thank God” no matter the situation. For those of you who do not know the story, Let me tell you. There was a man whose driver was a committed Christian, each time anything happens, he says we thank God, one day his boss had an accident and lost one of his fingers, while he was crying in pains, the driver said we thank God. This man got angry and sent away the driver for stupidity. One day this man was driving through a certain village on a day they needed a human being to sacrifice for a certain ritual. Unfortunate for thit man he was caught and taken to the shrine for sacrifice, while in the shrine, they discovered that he was not a complete human being because he lost one of his fingers. He was thus liberated, when he got back home and related the story to public and of his former driver who was also present repeated, “we thank God”. What lesson can we deduce from this? Though a rhetoric, it tells us that everything happens for a reason. So only God knows why things are the way there are. We are puns in the hands of God. My people, a bad attitude is like a flat tire, you go nowhere with it if you do not change it. We must develop a positive attitude towards every situation because only a positive attitude causes chain reactions of positive thoughts, events and outcome. It is a catalyst, and it sparks extraordinary results. It is on this premise that I call on you all to join our Head of State, President Paul Biya in commemorating this special day in the life of our Nation. Inflate these flat tires and let’s move onHe is one of the founding fathers of this nation who saw the tomorrow of our beloved Nation. We should always be patience in every circumstance, for patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. That is why it is said that “Your attitude Determines your Altitude”Happy 20th May 2024 CelebrationsGod Bless you, God bless CameroonLong Live Bamenada City CouncilLong Live the Republic of Cameroon Long live our astute President, Paul Biya
