The Ring Road Project: A Reality, not a Myth nor Political Propaganda

Developing Story

The Ring Road is classified as No 11 National Road within the state of Cameroon covering a distance of kilometers 360 KM, stretching from old Finance Junction Bamenda town through Bambui -Ngoketunjia , Bui , Nkambe, Misaje- Fonfuka , Zoa- Wum , Bafut and back to Bamenda town, ending at Hospital Round About. This project has for decades been considered a myth or mere political propaganda given the long delay it is realization ever since President Paul Biya  took cammand batton of Cameroon .

The state in ability to realize the project on record time gave the impression that all  was  mere political propaganda, going by some   pundits.    It was not until 2010 during the official visit of the Head of State, President Paul Biya  to Bamenda marking   the 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces that the project saw the light of  day.   During the visit, he announced the creation of Bamenda University and Tarring of the much  heralded Ring Road,  patrimony of the northwest popularion.

Shortly after the visit, work started with the effective tarring of 60.5 kilometers of the stretch of road from Babessi in Ngoketunjia to kumbo  Squares in Bui division in 2012 by SOGEA SATUM, a foreign company.   This was considered the first phase of the Project.
The second  phase  phase  of the project  funded by  the African Development Bank ( ADB)   with a time line of 24 months and  15 years  guarantee  upon completion, stretches from kumbo Squares in Bui Division to Misaje Sub Division in Donga Mantung Division, covering   a total distance of  94  kilometers  passing through Ndu and Nkambe central , headquarters of Donga Mantung   taking into consideration a bypass of 8 kilometers stetching from Binshua to Binju through  Government High School Nkambe . It should be noted that the total  number of kilometers to straight line to misaje without the by pass of 8 kilometers would have 88 kilometers .

In a recent exclusive with the Vanguard, Ngwaimbi Paul Northwest Regional Delegate of Public works explained  that the contract has been awarded to three Road construction companies notably, Societe MAG sarl, BUNs and BOfass Joint Venture.    While  Buns embarks on the stretch of road from Kumbo squares to Mbiye in Ndu sub Division covering a distance of 39 kilometers , Societe MAG Sarl, takes  from Mbiye to Nkambe, covering a distance of 31 Km .

But a bypass of 8 kilometers brings the  total to 39 Kilometers ,he intimated.  BOFass joint Ventures  supper comfort takes  from Binju  to Misaje - a distance of 18 kilometers.
Works effectively started in October last year ( 2023) and  it is   hoped that  part of 96 kms of the road shall  be ready  for acceptance by  2025-2026 .   He stated that there will be a disparity in the reception deadline taking into consideration  the security challenges that  impeded uniformity in take off of the  projects.

The population of Ndu, Nkambe and Misaje is said to be  overwhelm with joy, given the effective start of  works by both companies, especially with the installation of stone crusher in Binka Village by Society MAG Sarl and speedy opening of roads  from  Mbiye to 3 corners Ndu to  Kumbo by BUNs , Mbot,Binka - Nkambe road , by MAG  while Nkambe to Misaje By BOFAss Joint Venter supper Comfort.

Societe MAG stone crusher.
The Company's rate of physical realisation is estimated  to be  well of 10% . She takes lead while Buns follows on second position and Bofass 3rd but reportedly coming strong as she started late.
The lone information  hitting the airwaves of  Donga Mantung Division  today is nothing but the Ring Road the  and the socio-economic importance of the project to Division and the entire  region.

 To be continued

Details on the  employment of over 2500 youths  in about 17 councils of the region  (YOUTHS EMPLOYABILITY)   under the auspices of  ILO ( International Labour Organization) and women empowerment  programmes and many other advantages of the road the population of the region.
